The Battery Matters More Than the Cart
This is the real advantage over a sealed pen, and almost nobody explains it. A disposable fires at whatever voltage the manufacturer chose. With a 510 battery you choose, and that single setting changes the experience more than most people expect.
Lower voltage produces less vapour and far more flavour, because terpenes are volatile and burn off before cannabinoids do. Higher voltage gives bigger clouds and a harsher, flatter taste. If a cart tastes burnt at your usual setting, turn the battery down before you blame the oil — most people run theirs hotter than the fill needs.
With a live resin or diamond-infused cart the difference is stark, since those are the fills carrying the most aromatic content. Paying extra for terpenes and then vaporising them at full power is the most common waste in this category.
Reading a Cart Before You Buy
Fill type tells you more than the strain name does. Distillate is refined, potent and close to flavourless on its own, usually with terpenes added back. Live resin starts from fresh-frozen material and keeps more of the original aromatic profile. Diamond-infused sits between the two, with crystalline THCA suspended in a terpene-rich base.
Capacity is the other variable. A 1g cart is the low-risk way to test an unfamiliar brand; 2g and 3g bring the per-gram cost down once you know what you like.
Fitting and First Use
Screw it on until it is snug and then stop. Overtightening is the single most common cause of a cart that will not fire — it pushes the centre pin down and breaks the connection, and it can crack the base. Finger-tight is correct.
Let a new cart stand upright for a few minutes before the first draw so the wick saturates, then take two or three short, gentle pulls rather than one long hard one. Priming it properly is what prevents the burnt first hit that ruins the rest of the tank.
When a Cart Goes Wrong
Clogging is usually condensation in the mouthpiece rather than thickened oil — a gentle warm draw with the battery off clears most of it. Leaking almost always traces back to heat or storing the cart on its side. A burnt taste means the coil ran dry, which comes from chaining draws or running the voltage too high.
