What Indica Actually Tells You
Indica originally described plant shape and growing habit — short, broad-leaved plants from cooler mountain regions — rather than the experience of using them. Decades of crossbreeding mean almost nothing on the market today is genetically pure, so treat the label as a useful shorthand rather than a guarantee.
Terpenes Do More of the Work
Two indica-labelled strains with different terpene profiles can feel quite unlike each other. Myrcene, linalool and caryophyllene tend to show up in the heavier-feeling cultivars; limonene and pinene lean the other way. THC percentage tells you about strength, not character. Body High, Couch-Lock and Evening Use
What people usually mean by indica weed is a physical, weighted sensation — the body high — rather than a heady, mentally busy one. At higher doses that is where the couch-lock description comes from. It is why these often get picked as nighttime strains and reached for closer to sleep rather than at the start of the day, and why relaxing strains and indica tend to get used as if they were interchangeable terms.
Individual response varies more than any category label allows for. Tolerance, dose, format and the specific cultivar all change the outcome, so if you are new to a strain, start with less than you think you need.
